| Only the royal family and the gentry in Shuri
had recourse to the Ryukyuan confectionery
during the kingdom period. This confectionery
was used exclusively in traditional ceremonies
and events and was not intended for everyday
purposes. Today, it is still used in annual events in Okinawa, but they are now available to all people any time of the year. There are some 50 kinds of Ryukyuan confectionery. |
