OKIU Higashi Village Seminar House

OKIU's Higashi Village Seminar HouseOKIU's Seminar House in Higashi, a small village in the northern part of the main island of Okinawa, opened in October 2000 as an educational facility for students, faculty, alumni, supporters, and local residents to use for seminars and various activities. Covering an area of 43,000 square meters, the OKIU Higashi Village Seminar House has lodgings, a multipurpose hall and classroom, a cafeteria, a recreation room, tennis courts, and a multipurpose sports ground.

Located near the Higashi Village Azalea Eco-Park, the Gesashi Mangrove Forest, and the Fukuji Dam, the Seminar House can also be used for overnight field research.

The Seminar House is an ideal place for self-improvement and for nurturing one's interests, concerns, and intellectual curiosity. Students and faculty are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the magnificent natural environment, which is overflowing with the sights and sounds of the four seasons.

Student Union Building

The Student Union Building was completed in 1988 with the purpose of improving the welfare of students, faculty, alumni, and supporters, and increasing mutual exchange between them.

A bookstore is on the first floor; a cafeteria, on the second; and Japanese-style meeting room, and offices of the Alumni Association and Support Association, on the third. The fourth floor has a lounge and hall (approximate capacity of 300 people), which is used for signing ceremonies with our sister schools, Support Association meetings, conferences, and a variety of other events.

Student Counseling

Department chairpersons and counselors at the Student Counseling Office are available for our students as their immediate advisers. Feel free to come by the Student Counseling Office if you need someone to talk to about your studies, career, interpersonal relations or personal problems. Take the initiative and seek advice, rather than struggling on your own. We are dedicated to assisting each one of our students to lead a satisfying and meaningful college life.

Student Insurance System

Students are enrolled in a student insurance plan, which covers damages incurred from accidents that occur during classes, commutes to school, club activities, teacher training, and internships. Coverage is provided for one's own medical expenses and liability to others.

Health Maintenance

Students and faculty can receive first aid for unexpected illnesses and injuries in the Infirmary.

In addition, the school physician or nurse is available for consultations when one is feeling bad or needs medical advice.

Assistance for Finding Part-time Jobs

The majority of OKIU students have part-time jobs. The Student Affairs Section assists these students by providing them with the most up-to-date job information.

Assistance for Finding Housing

We provide information on apartments near the university for students who will begin living on their own. Students can browse listings at their convenience at the Student Affairs reception counter.

Support for Student Activities

OKIU students have accomplished some impressive feats, and their performances in various clubs have frequently been reported in the news. Currently, we have approximately 74 clubs, including culture-related clubs and sports teams. Clubrooms are provided for seventy percent of these groups. In addition, clubs receive some financial assistance. We are available to students for consultations on everything from the establishment of new clubs to paying club fees.
