Extension Programs

Striving to Promote Culture and Bring the Fruits of Our Research to the Public
  Okinawa International University aims to be a university rooted in the community and open to the world. For this reason, For this reason, it is imperative that we return the fruits of our educational and research activities to the community and make every effort to provide the general public with opportunities to experience what we have to offer.

 In order to provide the public with broad access to the results of our academic research, and to promote culture in the local community, we offer extension courses, which we hope will provide new opportunities for exchange.

No. 1 On-Campus Lecture Series

 The main theme of the FY 2008 lecture series was “The Nakayukui Lecture: Energizing Workshop,” and focused on the practical and experiential approach to the vitality of our regional society. In addition to OKIU faculty members, other experts were also invited for the ten lectures that were held.

[Lecture Period]: June-November, 2008

Cost: Free

No. 2 Off-Campus Lectures

 These are lectures that are jointly sponsored with municipalities and organizations. Our four colleges mail out a list of lectures that are offered, and lectures are organized based on the requests of interested municipalities and groups. OKIU faculty members are dispatched as so-called “lecturers on demand.”

No. 3 Special Lectures

 Approximately twice a year, famous people from outside the prefecture are invited to give lectures.

Cost: Free

No. 4 Extension Courses

 Some of our regular course offerings are listed as extension courses that are open to the general public.

Cost: Tuition must be paid.

No. 5 University Introductory Classes

 These are classes that are jointly sponsored with area high schools. Our four colleges mail out a list of classes that are offered for high school students, and classes are organized based on the requests of interested high schools.

 Either OKUI faculty members are dispatched for “lectures on demand,” or high school students are invited to OKUI for on-campus classes.

Extension Course Publication Series

Available at Bookstores throughout Japan!

We have published the content of each lecture series since 1993 in our “Okinawa International University Lecture Series” books. In addition, reports on our special lectures, which are held once or twice a year, are published as university booklets.
