International students applying to enter Okinawa International University should follow these guidelines:
Before You Apply
● You must possess or be able to acquire a Status of Residence of “Student.”
● You must show proof of Japanese language proficiency (by submitting JLPT, EJU, or J-Test scores).
● You must have completed 12 years of overseas schooling or the equivalent.
● You should understand that classes (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) will be conducted in Japanese.
Application Requirements
● Have a foreign (non-Japanese) nationality.
● Thoroughly read and adequately understand Okinawa International University’s admission policies.
● Complete 12 years of overseas schooling or the equivalent.
● Possess or be able to acquire a Status of Residence of “Student” to enter a university or study in Japan,
as prescribed under the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.
● Satisfy at least one of the following three Japanese language requirements:
1) Score 220 or above on the Japanese as a Foreign Language subject test and 100 or above on the Japan
and the World subject test of the Examination for Japanese University Admission (EJU).
2) Pass Level N2 or above for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
3) Score 600 or above on the A-C Level of the J-Test Practical Japanese Proficiency Test.
Note: Concerning the EJU, JLPT, and J-Test, applicants should be sure to take the test on one of the dates
listed in the Guide for the Special Selective Entrance Examination for International Students.
Selection Process
●For those who submit EJU score results, the decision on acceptance will be based on the applicant’s
EJU score,a screening of the application documents, and an interview conducted by the relevant
department.
●For those who submit a score of N2 or above on the JLPT or a score of 600 points or above on the J-Test, the
decision on acceptance will be based on the results of OKIU’s own written exam (applicants can answer in
Japanese or English), a screening of the application documents, and an interview conducted by the
relevant department.
