A Treasure Trove of 500,000 Books

The OKIU Library is a beautiful and dignified building, perfectly suited for the symbol of the university’s intellectual vitality. With approximately 500,000 books and other materials, the library provides the backup needed for undergraduate and graduate students to get superior results from their research and study. Along with the wealth of materials, the Library provides excellent support services and a pleasant learning environment, including a Learning Commons and various data bases to provide immediate access to diverse media and extensive amounts of online information. In addition, the Library regularly holds library guidance for undergraduate and graduate students, and offers lectures on topics such as searching for sources and writing academic papers, so that library users can more efficiently gather materials.
Foreign Book Collection

Foreign Book Collection

To support research and study in foreign languages, the OKIU library houses approximately 5,000 foreign books and has back issues for about 6,000 periodicals. The library also accepts requests for books that patrons wish to have purchased.

The number of e-books in the library collection has been rapidly increasing. These include numerous books and materials for learning English or Japanese as a foreign language, and also for research and teaching. E-books are accessible online from outside the university.

The library has an extensive collection of books and materials for Okinawan and Ryukyuan studies. Some of these materials have been translated into English.
